Senator Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., criticized Iran’s reported demand for war reparations related to its conflict with the United States and Israel on Wednesday. The senator stated that the U.S. should pursue compensation instead of accepting such demands.
In an interview, Tuberville declared: “Well, first of all, President Trump and our military has already won the war.” He added that turning this victory into peace would likely be difficult.
Tuberville dismissed Iran’s proposed reparations as illegitimate. He referenced a recent rejection by Iran of a framework from the Trump administration that would have included sanctions relief in exchange for halting uranium enrichment and ending support for terror groups.
The senator described Iran’s demands as “a crock of crap,” emphasizing that the U.S. should take action to recover military and financial costs.
“To pay ourselves back, we need to do what we did with Iraq’s oil wells — take enough from Iran’s resources to cover the billions spent trying to bring sense to these nations,” Tuberville stated.
The comments come as the administration weighs next steps in negotiations aimed at converting recent military gains into a longer-term settlement.
