Donald Trump on Saturday indicated he could replace several musicians who recently withdrew from next month’s Freedom 250 celebration in Washington, D.C., by headlining an “AMERICA IS BACK Rally” at the same venue.
In a Truth Social post, Trump mocked artists who had decided not to participate and stated he was considering taking their place. He wrote: “I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday,” he said. “I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World … DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists,’ and give a major speech.”
Trump also noted that his representatives were examining the feasibility of holding the rally at Washington’s National Mall on the same date as the Freedom 250 event. He described the proposed gathering as “Only Great Patriots invited — It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!”
The comments follow reports that several performers have withdrawn from the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair, an event scheduled for June 25 through July 10 to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Organizers initially announced a lineup featuring Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day & The Time, The Commodores, Vanilla Ice, and Flo Rida.
Within days, multiple artists withdrew from the event, citing concerns about its political associations. Some performers stated they had believed the event would be nonpartisan but later became worried about its alignment with specific political groups. Bret Michaels specifically mentioned receiving threats directed at fans and crew members, while others expressed discomfort with being involved in a politically charged gathering.
Freedom 250 has characterized itself as a nonpartisan organization established to coordinate events for America’s semiquincentennial celebration. The event is expected to include concerts, state exhibits, military tributes, and other patriotic programming, aiming to bring together representatives from all 50 states and U.S. territories.
Despite the withdrawals, several acts remain associated with the event, including Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida. Organizers have stated that additional programming and performers could still be announced in the coming weeks.
Trump used his post to argue that the country has rebounded under his leadership, noting: “Two years ago, the United States was DEAD. Now we have the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World.”
