Virginia Republican Rep. John McGuire stated Sunday that President Donald Trump’s military campaign has severely degraded Iran’s military capabilities and strengthened the United States’ position against the regime, adding that Tehran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon and that the U.S. must “finish the job.”
McGuire described the U.S. military as “the best in history,” saying, “Our men and women are amazing. We’ve devastated their Navy, we’ve devastated their Air Force, and we’ve just minimized more and more, every day, their ability to terrorize the region and the world.”
The representative emphasized that Iran cannot control the Strait of Hormuz or acquire a nuclear weapon. “We’ve got to finish the job,” McGuire said.
When asked about Trump’s efforts to pursue peace while addressing rising energy prices, McGuire stated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains the administration’s overriding objective. “What I support is stopping the number one state sponsor of terror who could have a nuclear weapon,” he added. “If they were to get a nuclear weapon, it would kill millions of people.”
McGuire also noted that Trump’s energy policies aim to reduce U.S. dependence on oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. “President Trump is drilling. He’s issuing permits, and we are on our way to becoming energy dominant,” McGuire said. “Maybe someday, the Strait of Hormuz won’t have such an impact.”
Addressing Iranian claims that the country generated billions in oil revenue during the conflict, McGuire expressed skepticism about the figures. “I think one thing the world has learned is you can’t trust anything they say,” he said. “There’s no question we have mitigated their ability to project power at every level, and they’re getting weaker every day.”
McGuire added that Trump ordered military strikes only after intelligence indicated the threat posed by Iran had become too great to ignore. “I know President Trump wants to be the president of peace,” he said. “He did not want to do this. But the evidence, the intelligence, showed it was too great to wait. It was too dangerous to wait.”
Turning to election security, McGuire urged the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act, stating it is necessary to prevent noncitizens from voting. “We’ve got to pass the SAVE America Act,” he said. “Call, email, text, visit your U.S. senator, and tell them to vote, put America first, and vote for the SAVE America Act.”
