Trump Hails Giant Eagle’s Price Cuts on 300+ Products, Calls for Grocery Chains to Follow

President Donald Trump praised grocery chain Giant Eagle on Sunday for slashing prices on more than 300 products through Labor Day, urging other supermarkets to follow his administration’s push to lower costs for American families.

In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that Giant Eagle, “like Walmart,” was stepping up in a big and bold way by answering his call to reduce prices. He pointed to declining prices for oil, gasoline, eggs, and prescription drugs while blaming inflation on the Biden administration.

“Other grocery chains must immediately follow the lead of these absolute Patriots at Giant Eagle and Walmart,” Trump wrote. “Together, we will make America stronger and more affordable than ever before.”

Trump’s comments came in response to Giant Eagle’s recently announced “On Sale This Season” initiative, which took effect July 9 and runs through Labor Day. The regional supermarket chain confirmed it is cutting prices on over 300 of its most frequently purchased items, including meat, produce, dairy, pantry staples, snacks, and beverages.

“We know our customers are seeking value in the face of elevated expenses,” said Justin Weinstein, Giant Eagle’s executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer, when announcing the program. He added that the company expanded the seasonal pricing effort after a similar promotion last fall.
