WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has suggested that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is now eligible for impeachment following the New York Democrat’s criticism of the U.S. Supreme Court.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Jeffries of labeling the high court “illegitimate” after its ruling in a Louisiana redistricting case. Trump wrote: “Hakeem Jeffries, a Low IQ individual, said our Supreme Court is ‘illegitimate.’ After saying such a thing, isn’t he subject to Impeachment? I got impeached for A PERFECT PHONE CALL. Where are you Republicans? Why not get it started?” He added, “They’ll be doing this to me!”
Jeffries had previously condemned the Supreme Court’s decision, which involved congressional district maps in Louisiana and their compliance with the Voting Rights Act. In a statement last week, Jeffries argued that the ruling “strikes a blow” to the landmark civil rights law and could impair minority communities’ ability to elect candidates of their choice.
Jeffries described the court’s action as “designed to undermine the ability of communities of color all across this country,” calling it both “unacceptable” and “not unexpected.” The Supreme Court’s Louisiana ruling centers on how states draw congressional districts and the extent to which race can be considered under the Voting Rights Act. This case is part of a broader national series of redistricting disputes, with both political parties monitoring its potential impact on future elections.
