Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has accused U.S. Senator John Cornyn of failing to deliver a single notable accomplishment during his four decades in office, stating that Texans have had enough of the Republican senator’s record.
Paxton, who is competing with Cornyn in a primary runoff scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, noted that President Donald Trump has yet to endorse him in the race.
During an interview on “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” Paxton recounted asking nearly every group across Texas—“one person, 1,000 people, 2,000 people”—the question: “Can you name one great accomplishment of John Cornyn?” He added that in the entire 40 years Cornyn has held office, no one has ever provided an answer. “We are Texas and we deserve better representation than we’ve gotten,” Paxton said.
The attorney general criticized Cornyn for being loyal to Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell in Washington but not to Texans.
Paxton also revealed that Cornyn opposed Trump in the 2016 presidential race and again in 2024, claiming Trump was “going another direction” and his time had passed. Additionally, Cornyn allegedly suggested that claims about Russian interference in U.S. elections were true.
Paxton accused Cornyn of opposing efforts to build the border wall and advocating for amnesty throughout his career, as well as being a longtime supporter of former President Joe Biden. He also cited Cornyn’s role in passing Second Amendment restrictions that Texans oppose and helping bring Afghan refugees with no vetting process.
“So he has not been a fan of Donald Trump until I got into the primary,” Paxton stated.
