Analysis of Federal Election Commission filings reveals Republican-leaning megadonors gave $880 million in the first half of 2026—more than three times the amount donated by Democrat-leaning contributors. The fundraising advantage comes as Republicans prepare to protect their congressional majorities ahead of November elections, following earlier predictions from Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters that the GOP would match or exceed Democrats’ outside spending this cycle.
Among individual donors, progressive billionaire George Soros contributed $102 million through entities including Geosor and the Fund for Policy Reform, all directed to his Democracy PAC. The next-largest contributors overwhelmingly favored Republicans and conservative causes. Venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz donated a combined $91.2 million—$50 million to pro-artificial intelligence super PAC Leading the Future, nearly $24 million to pro-cryptocurrency Fairshake PAC, and $12 million to MAGA Inc., which supports President Donald Trump and his endorsed candidates.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk contributed $85.1 million, with nearly $50 million going to America PAC and another $20 million split between the Congressional Leadership Fund and Senate Leadership Fund. Pennsylvania financier Jeff Yass and education advocate Janine Yass donated $83.7 million supporting Vivek Ramaswamy’s V-PAC, MAGA Inc., and school choice initiatives through the School Freedom Fund. Businesswoman Miriam Adelson, a prominent Trump political supporter, contributed $67.6 million—including $30 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $25 million to MAGA Inc. Elizabeth and Richard Uihlein added $50.7 million largely backing Restoration of America, while OpenAI President Greg Brockman and his wife Anna donated $50 million split between MAGA Inc. and Leading the Future AI PAC.
Organizations also contributed significantly: cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase led with $56.1 million in political donations, followed by Ripple Labs at $49.6 million. Republican-aligned nonprofit One Nation contributed $46.5 million, while Crypto.com operator Foris DAX gave $38.6 million primarily to Trump-aligned groups. Pro-Israel advocacy group AIPAC donated $30 million through its United Democracy Project.
The figures underscore Republicans’ growing financial advantage as they enter a pivotal midterm election cycle, with outside groups and wealthy donors intensifying efforts to preserve GOP control of Congress.
