Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) stated Wednesday he is “very confident” the House will pass a $95 billion reconciliation 3.0 bill that includes defense funding and SAVE America Act components.
Carter, a member of the House Budget Committee, said Republicans have the momentum needed to approve the package before lawmakers leave Washington for the August recess. “We’ve got momentum now,” he added, explaining that “people are focused and understand just how important it is.”
The legislation, Carter emphasized, would provide troops with resources to safely and effectively finish the drill in Iran while also enacting key provisions of the SAVE America Act to strengthen voter identification requirements and ensure only citizens vote.
Carter noted that the budget framework approved by House Republicans includes $10 billion for grants encouraging states to adopt provisions similar to the SAVE America Act. While acknowledging skepticism about Democratic-led states’ participation, he described a strategy combining incentives and penalties: “We’re using the carrot and the stick,” he said. “We’re trying to put some sticks in there” to push states to implement voter ID requirements.
Pointing to recent reports involving New Jersey’s voter rolls, Carter argued stronger safeguards are necessary. “Look what happened in New Jersey just yesterday,” he said, citing the discovery of 6,600 illegal voters on rolls with hundreds having cast ballots. “That is voter suppression here in America.”
Carter also criticized the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History for straying from its educational mission by promoting what he called “woke” narratives instead of celebrating the nation’s history. He suggested Congress could leverage its power over federal funding to address the issue.
Additionally, Carter welcomed President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Georgia, calling it a major boost for Republicans and highlighting the state’s economic growth and rising wages as evidence of Trump’s economic agenda and the Working Families Tax Cut Act.
