Former Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell has been accused by more than a dozen women of sending sexual messages via Snapchat, including videos depicting his masturbation.
Swalwell resigned from Congress and California’s gubernatorial race two weeks ago over allegations of sexual misconduct. One woman described being drugged, raped, and choked by Swalwell in a hotel room in 2018.
According to the reporter, one woman said Swalwell would send messages about her future and ask, “What are you wearing?”
Two other women stated that Swalwell sent them sexually explicit messages and unsolicited nude photos and videos of himself in 2021. Another woman reported receiving “sexually tinged messages and videos.”
A female congressional staffer told the reporter that she developed a consensual sexual relationship with Swalwell after he began flirting with her on Snapchat in 2021. During their relationship, the staffer said Swalwell sent “nude photos of himself and videos of him masturbating,” which showed his face and naked body. She added that Swalwell sent another explicit video to her just weeks before announcing his candidacy for California’s governorship.
Swalwell has denied all allegations. His attorney, Sara Azari, stated in a statement: “Swalwell categorically and unequivocally denies each and every allegation of sexual misconduct and assault that has been leveled against him.”
Azari also confirmed Swalwell had consensual relationships outside his marriage but emphasized, “He’s not denying that. But that’s very different than engaging in nonconsensual sexual misconduct.” Additionally, she noted that Swalwell denied the accounts of some women who spoke with the reporter and described his communications as “routine and professional.”
