Sara Carter, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, said on Tuesday that the Trump administration will take aggressive action against drug cartels.
“This is the president’s message to the American people: his promise that he has not forgotten the children, families, communities, and the nation in this fight against drug lords and narcoterrorists who have poisoned our country,” Carter stated. “There are hundreds of thousands of Americans every year harmed or killed by drugs—or living their lives in addiction, whose children have been poisoned.”
Carter added that the administration is focused on targeting cartels at every checkpoint—including by land, air, mail, and border crossings.
“This is the first time in decades a president has brought renewed attention to the Western Hemisphere to protect Americans,” she said. “And if you think about it, this protection extends globally. One of the biggest parts of our strategy involves emerging threats: how do we stay ahead of cartels? By knowing what is happening on the ground and within our country.”
“We are no longer going to sit back and allow cartels to operate with impunity or put poison into our nation,” Carter emphasized. “We are fighting back because we have a president who gives us the authority to do so.”
