Trump’s China Trip Highlights $2.9 Trillion Trade Deficit as He Praises ‘Amazing’ Country

The United States imported $308.37 billion in goods from the People’s Republic of China during 2025, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Americans purchased an estimated $39,246,893,116 worth of cell phones and other household goods manufactured in Beijing last year.

President Donald Trump traveled to China alongside corporate executives including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, Meta’s Dina Powell McCormick, and Mastercard’s Michael Miebach.

Over the past decade (2016–2025), U.S. imports from China total $4.205 trillion, while Chinese imports of American goods amount to only $1.299 trillion, resulting in a cumulative trade deficit of $2.906 trillion.

Trump posted on Truth Social prior to his trip: “I am very much looking forward to my trip to China, an amazing Country, with a Leader, President Xi, respected by all.”

The U.S. government has consistently documented the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights violations, including allegations of genocide in Xinjiang and systematic repression of religious freedom. According to recent reports, China has “perpetuated particularly severe violations of religious freedom” through a policy of “coercive ‘sinicization’ of religion.”

A U.S. government report states that the Chinese regime should not be allowed to accumulate trillions of dollars in trade with the United States.
