Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, warned Americans on Thursday that they must “get serious” following key primary victories by Marxist Democrats in New York, declaring the election results signal a dangerous shift toward the far left.
“What we saw in New York is a total disaster with socialism and Marxism at the front, and what these people stand for — not even what some of my Democratic friends stand for,” Williams said. “So, it’s serious business.”
His comments came after candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, scored major wins in New York’s congressional primaries earlier this week.
Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander defeated Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., in the 10th Congressional District, while democratic socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier unseated Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in the 13th Congressional District.
Williams cited House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., as having correctly warned Americans about the growing threat posed by socialism and Marxism.
“I thought Speaker Johnson said it right — people got to get serious about this,” Williams stated.
When asked whether the United States is losing control of its communities, Williams emphasized that Americans must become more engaged and defend the nation’s founding principles.
“We lose control of our communities if people don’t get involved,” he said. “I see a lot of areas around the country that have turned into communities we never thought we’d see before — with Sharia law and ignoring the Constitution. But that’s because we let people do that.”
Williams stressed the importance of upholding the Constitution and enforcing the nation’s laws.
“We are a land of laws,” he added. “We got to adhere to the Constitution. We’ve got to stand up when we need to be heard. And if we don’t, we could very well lose our country.”
In closing, Williams urged Americans to reject what he called the failed ideas of socialism and Marxism.
“We’ve got to get it right,” he said. “We’ve got to keep America where it is: a law-abiding country where people can realize their dream and not a scheme.”
