Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has announced plans to sue conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, accusing him of defaming himself during a recent interview with Hunter Biden.
Giuliani made the threat during his Sunday appearance on Newsmax, where he sharply criticized both Carlson and Biden over their discussion of the origins of the Hunter Biden laptop controversy.
“He personally defamed me, Hunter Biden did,” Giuliani stated. “And so did Tucker.”
Giuliani expressed particular anger at Carlson’s comments about whether Israeli figures played a role in bringing material associated with Hunter Biden’s laptop into the public sphere. During the interview, Carlson alleged individuals with ties to Israel had approached him while working at Fox News and pushed allegations involving purported material on Biden’s computer.
In his Newsmax remarks, Giuliani interpreted Carlson’s response as an agreement that he and former President Donald Trump acted as agents for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “In other words, he agrees that I was and Trump was an agent for Bibi,” Giuliani said.
When pressed on whether he had been an agent for anyone besides himself and the United States, Giuliani insisted: “I wasn’t an agent for anybody but myself and the United States of America and the man I was representing.”
Giuliani declared his intent to sue Carlson over the alleged defamation, stating, “I’m gonna sue him!” and confirming he would follow through: “Absolutely.”
The dispute centers on a 2020 controversy involving material from a computer associated with Hunter Biden that was published by The New York Post shortly before the presidential election. Giuliani played a central role in the episode and provided the Post with a copy of the hard drive, which became the basis for stories about its contents.
President Biden has disputed aspects of the laptop narrative, stating during his interview with Carlson that material eventually attributed to the laptop came from multiple sources, including hacked cloud accounts.
Giuliani’s threatened lawsuit would focus on whether Carlson’s comments about Giuliani’s alleged role in the episode constituted defamation.
