New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his wife, Rama Duwaji, have released their 2025 tax returns, showing combined earnings of $144,784 before taxes.

The couple is due a refund of $7,011 from both state and federal taxes because they overpaid.

Mamdani earned $131,926 from his role as New York City Assemblyman and $1,600 in royalty payments from his past work as a rapper known by the stage name “Mr. Cardamom.”

Duwaji reported $10,010 before taxes from her visual design business, but after expenses she had $8,860 — an amount below the federal poverty level.

The couple also reported $1,600 in capital gains.

Neither Mamdani nor Duwaji listed any charitable contributions on their tax return. A spokesperson for the mayor stated that while he has given money to charity, the couple chose the standard deduction for tax purposes. The spokesperson did not provide details about specific donations.

Council Speaker Julie Menin indicated she would not release her own tax returns, stating there is no established precedent for city council speakers doing so. “To my knowledge, Speaker Adrienne Adams and Speaker Corey Johnson and past speakers have not done that, so I don’t think that there is a precedent to do that,” Menin told reporters.

Henry Robins, a spokesperson for Menin, added: “Like all city elected officials, the speaker complies with robust financial disclosure requirements that provide transparency into income, assets, and potential conflicts.”
