Mindy Cohn’s Hospital Thumbs-Up Signals Recovery After Cancer Recurrence

Mindy Cohn, the veteran actress best known for her role on the long-running sitcom “The Facts of Life,” announced Sunday on social media that she is recovering from a recurrence of cancer.

She shared a photo of herself giving a thumbs-up from her hospital bed.

“I’ve been off social media for a while ‘cuz I had to go kick cancer’s a,” she wrote, signaling she was in the middle of recovery.

This isn’t Cohn’s first battle with the disease. In 2017, she discussed a private five-year struggle with breast cancer that began with a 2012 diagnosis. During that time, she endured what she described as a “siege” of treatments—including a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Even then, the journey was arduous.

“I’ve always been an optimist,” she said. “But the cancer metastasized. It kept spreading and coming back. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and then it would. And then I’d wait for another shoe to drop, and it would.”

She added: “I was frustrated and enraged. I couldn’t control any of this. I couldn’t fix it.”

In her most recent update, Cohn did not specify the type of cancer she is currently fighting but expressed gratitude toward her medical team at Providence Saint John’s. She praised her oncology surgeon, Anton Bilchik, as a “hero” and thanked her nurses—Finja, Patty, and Courtney—as well as her family members who have been her constant advocates.

“I’m recouping for another couple of weeks and then ready for my next adventure,” she told followers. “Onwards! FK Cancer!”

The news prompted immediate support from Hollywood colleagues, including Jerry O’Connell, Sarah Paulson, Helen Hunt, Octavia Spencer, Chelsea Handler, and Lucy Hale.

Cohn has maintained a busy career since her role on the sitcom “Eastland Academy,” which ran for nine seasons until 1988. Recently, she appeared as Ann Holiday in Apple TV+’s series “Palm Royale” and was featured in the film “Influenced” alongside Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Cohn stated she would be back to her next project within a few weeks.
