Lauren Silverman Reveals “One of the Hardest Times of My Life” After Becoming Pregnant With Simon Cowell While Still Married

Lauren Silverman has detailed the intense personal and public fallout of becoming pregnant with Simon Cowell’s child in 2013 while still married to her ex-husband, Andrew Silverman.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of the “Happy Mum” podcast, the 48-year-old socialite labeled the experience “one of the hardest times of my life,” recounting how she entered a “fight-or-flight mode” to cope with sudden media scrutiny.

The public revelation of the pregnancy instantly dismantled her first marriage.

“There are so many emotions that went with that, because it was the end of my marriage,” Silverman said in an interview with Page Six.

She recalled how the subsequent press coverage severely impacted her daily life: “Everywhere I went … it was just the way that people would look at me. I was on the cover of every magazine, and there were news stories about it — it was just awful.”

The controversy followed a series of public denials. According to reporting by People, Silverman and Cowell initially sparked affair rumors in 2012, which Cowell’s lawyer actively denied as “false” and “reckless.” However, news of the pregnancy broke the following year, with an insider telling People that Silverman was “unhappy in her marriage” to Andrew.

The discovery prompted Andrew to file for divorce after a decade-long marriage, stating he prioritized their now-20-year-old son, Adam Silverman.

Silverman took accountability for the public backlash: “I felt like, ‘OK, this has happened. I’m a big girl. I’ve got to suck it up and get on with it. And whatever’s coming at me, I deserve it, I’ll take it and I’ll just keep my head down.’ And that’s what I did for a really long time.”

She also acknowledged the lingering impact: “As much as I wish I could go back and take away the hurt and pain that it caused for my ex-husband and for Adam … it happened.”

Despite initial friction, Silverman noted her relationship with Andrew has fully recovered. “When I got divorced … it wasn’t a great situation at all. It was terrible,” she said. “I feel really proud to say that … we are many years past that point. My ex and I, we do have a very nice relationship.”

Ultimately, Silverman defended her path: “It was one of the hardest times of my life, because — I don’t want to say regretful, because I don’t regret anything — do I wish it had happened a different way? Of course, I do.”

“But I think everything happens for a reason,” she added. “It was just one of those moments where I knew it was right and that was what I wanted and that Simon was the person I wanted to spend my life with.”

The couple welcomed their son, Eric Cowell, in February 2014 — an event Silverman described as “completely changing” her life. Cowell later proposed in December 2021, though the couple has yet to confirm marriage.
