Monday, May 25, 2026 — House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said he is “praying for a resolution” to the ongoing Iran nuclear crisis while stressing President Donald Trump remains committed to preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
In remarks made on Monday, Johnson emphasized that Trump has maintained a firm stance throughout negotiations and military tensions in the region.
“I talk with the president about it almost every day,” Johnson stated. “He certainly understands that he wants it resolved quickly, but it must be done in the right way.”
Johnson added: “We have to finish the job. That means we’ve got to ensure his number one condition is that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.”
Johnson also highlighted the critical need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping lane for oil and commerce whose disruptions have contributed to rising energy prices worldwide.
“In the meantime, we can get the Strait of Hormuz reopened for commerce because that’s important for everybody around the world,” Johnson said.
He noted negotiations are focused on securing and disposing of “the remnants of their enriched uranium and other things that may still be in the country.” Johnson indicated these discussions will continue over the next 60 days.
The speaker stressed that Middle Eastern nations, NATO allies, and other countries are involved in ongoing efforts to address the situation.
“Our fingers crossed, we’re praying for a resolution there,” Johnson said. “And one that ensures the safety and the prosperity of Americans and everybody else.”
