A Republican National Committee chair stated today that the party can reverse historic trends and secure its majority in the House of Representatives by countering what he called a dangerous leftward shift among Democrats.
The RNC official, Joe Gruters, cited the nomination of Darializa Chevalier as an example of this trend. Chevalier has advocated for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and opposes deportation, military aid, and prison sentences for murderers.
“It’s disgusting,” Gruters said in remarks to reporters. “But that’s what the left is putting out.”
Gruters claimed these candidates are being inspired by AOC and Bernie Sanders and are running across the country. He noted that many districts are competitive, which could lead to favorable matchups for Republicans.
He also referenced the political instability in the United Kingdom, where seven prime ministers have taken office in ten years amid increased migration levels. Gruters said Americans recognize the consequences of such trends and do not want similar outcomes in their own country.
Gruters highlighted Florida’s efforts to ban Sharia law as a model for national action. “We’ve passed numerous laws,” he stated, “and we need to take similar proactive steps nationwide.”
The RNC chair asserted that Democrats have moved too far left and will face rejection at the polls. He noted there are 18 toss-up seats in the House according to the Cook Political Report.
“This is what’s happened to their party,” Gruters said. “We have a chance to defy history and win these midterms.”
