Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton accused California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra in an interview over the weekend that he pushed migrant children “into the arms of child sex traffickers.”
Hilton stated: “People say [Becerra], when he was Health and Human Services Secretary for former President Joe Biden, he lost 85,000 migrant kids. No, he didn’t lose them. He pushed them out of the system without caring where they went, dismantled the vetting and pushed migrant kids into the arms of child sex traffickers. That’s what he did.”
An Emerson College poll released over the weekend showed Xavier Becerra leading Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary field with 28% support, followed by billionaire Tom Steyer, also a Democrat, at 22%, and Hilton at 21%. Republican Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco was the only other candidate in double digits with 12% support.
The top two finishers regardless of party affiliation will advance to the November general election.
