Anthony Guidera, the actor best known for his role in The Godfather Part III, died on Saturday, June 6 at the age of 65.
His wife, Valarie Guidera, confirmed that her husband collapsed at their Southern California home on May 11, resulting in a three-week stay on hospital life support before he passed away. Doctors were unable to determine what caused his heart to stop.
Guidera was actively involved in spiritual practices and community service. He taught meditation and breathing exercises at his Los Angeles office and volunteered with “Astara,” a spiritual foundation located in Palos Verdes Estates, California, where he was referred to as “Reverend Anthony.” The organization released the following statement after his death: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Astara’s Reverend Anthony. We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible taking each moment as it comes. Please hold his eternal light in your hearts and his family in your prayers.”
Guidera graduated from college in California in 1983. He began his career as a model in San Francisco before moving to Paris for international modeling campaigns. After studying theater and acting in New York, he launched a film career that included over 30 screen credits. His film roles spanned The Rock (1996), The Postman (1997), Armageddon (1998), The Annihilation of Fish (1999), and the direct-to-DVD comedy L.A. Dicks in 2005. He earned a 1996 MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for his onscreen romance with Natasha Henstridge in Species.
Guidera also appeared as a guest on television series including ER, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Baywatch Nights.
