The upcoming mayoral election in New York City has emerged as a critical moment for the Democratic Party, with political strategist and presidential adviser Dick Morris warning that a victory by democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani could signal a dangerous shift toward radicalism. Morris told Newsmax on Saturday that if Mamdani wins, he would become a symbol of the party’s growing extremism, alongside figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Morris argued that a Mamdani win would reflect the Democratic Party’s escalating radicalism, which he described as promoting antisemitic rhetoric and policies. He claimed this would send “shock waves” through New York’s Jewish community and nationally. The strategist also criticized the policies of Mamdani, linking them to those of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent candidate. Morris accused Cuomo of pioneering controversial measures such as sanctuary city policies and bail reform, which he said contributed to the city’s decline.
Morris further contended that the Democratic Party has increasingly moved leftward after electoral losses, resulting in “degenerate” and “crazy” candidates. He compared this trajectory to past Democratic failures, citing figures like Michael Dukakis and Walter Mondale, and warned that the party risks self-destruction through its radicalization.
The political adviser also highlighted his new book, The Real Charlie Kirk, praising late conservative leader Charlie Kirk for inspiring young voters and reshaping modern politics. However, he lamented Kirk’s death as a reflection of rising political hostility.
