Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., praised President Donald Trump’s efforts to counter Iran’s nuclear threat during a recent interview on Newsmax.

“Thank God we have a president that is willing to defend American lives,” Scott said on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”

“They’ve been killing us for 47 years. They’ve been trying to build a nuclear weapon,” he stated. “And when they get it, every American is at risk in the United States. Trump is holding them accountable.”

Scott emphasized that while the path is difficult, “Nobody wants to go to war. This president doesn’t want to go to war.” He also expressed concern for military families: “Nobody wants to lose a serviceman or -woman’s life. My heart goes out to their families.”

“The president is going to defend us,” Scott added. “He’s going to make sure that Iran cannot continue to kill us.”

Scott warned that an Iranian nuclear weapon would enable blackmail tactics similar to those used by North Korea and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said such a capability would “completely destabilize first the Middle East but actually the world” because “the regime in Iran, they’re crazy. They’re absolutely insane with what they want to accomplish.”

“Thank God they don’t have a nuclear weapon,” Scott concluded. “They’re not going to have one while Trump is president.”
