The York Revolution, a Pennsylvania minor league baseball team, forfeited its scheduled game Thursday night after several players declined to wear Pride Night jerseys featuring rainbow-colored sleeves. Under Atlantic League rules requiring uniformed personnel to wear matching uniforms, the club canceled the contest against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
The team stated that the decision was made because “several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with.”
Despite the forfeit, the Revolution confirmed its Pride Night festivities would proceed as planned at WellSpan Park. The events include free public admission, music, fan batting practice, and other on-field activities. Ticket holders will be able to redeem their tickets as rainout vouchers for any remaining 2026 regular-season home games.
The team announced a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center, a York-based LGBTQ+ organization. The club stated this action aligns with its long-standing partnerships and community commitments.
The Rainbow Rose Center expressed disappointment at the circumstances but appreciated the team’s decision to continue events and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
This incident has drawn attention to broader tensions within professional baseball over Pride-themed events and uniform policies, following recent warnings from Major League Baseball regarding San Francisco Giants players who altered Pride Night caps by adding Bible verses.
