House Majority Whip Tom Emmer asserted that President Donald Trump is addressing economic challenges inherited from former President Joe Biden and Democratic policies, which he described as “reckless” and “failed.” During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” the Minnesota Republican criticized Biden’s $2 trillion American Rescue Plan, calling it the “original sin” for economists.

Emmer argued that Biden’s fiscal approach triggered “double-digit inflation that we hadn’t seen in 40 years,” which he claimed Trump has been resolving. He highlighted declining energy and grocery costs, as well as gas prices at their lowest levels in five years, as evidence of economic recovery under Trump.

The GOP leader also referenced a September 19th bipartisan effort to fund the government, stating that Democrats’ rejection of a “clean continuing resolution” reflected their adherence to “failed policies.” Emmer dismissed recent Democratic election successes, insisting they occurred “where we expected them to,” while citing Republican gains in New Jersey and New York as proof of Trump’s influence on affordability.

He predicted Republicans would retain congressional majorities in 2026, stating, “We will finish what the American people elected Donald J. Trump to do.” Emmer emphasized focusing on policy over rhetoric to address the gender gap among younger female voters, claiming Republican strategies would strengthen their position as economic conditions improve.
