Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Tuesday that Kyiv was discussing with Washington a possible presence of U.S. troops in Ukraine as part of security guarantees and raised what he called a fake attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence.
Kyiv has denied any involvement in targeting a presidential residence, labeling the accusation as a fabrication intended to justify further aggression against Ukraine. Zelenskyy described the claim as “state terrorism” and stated it was designed to scuttle ongoing peace negotiations.
Russia accused Ukraine of using 91 long-range drones to attack a presidential residence in the Novgorod region, which Moscow claimed it intercepted. The Kremlin has threatened retaliation but maintains that peace talks will continue.
Zelenskyy reiterated his willingness to meet Putin despite mutual distrust, saying: “This alleged ‘residence strike’ story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine.”
