Sen. Mark Warner emphasized that President Donald Trump must take active steps to resolve the ongoing government shutdown, stating that Americans are “very angry at this president.” The Virginia Democrat told CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday that the situation cannot be addressed without Trump’s direct involvement. Warner argued that bipartisan discussions have stalled because Republican colleagues require his approval to move forward. He reiterated that ending the shutdown “will require the active intervention of the president,” urging Trump to prioritize domestic issues over international engagements. Warner criticized Trump for spending time “trying to audition for a Nobel Prize” instead of addressing the crisis, and noted that the president has ignored the shutdown despite previously stating it is his responsibility to end such conflicts.
