President Donald Trump dismissed Republican losses in recent elections, criticizing the results as “not expected to be a victory” and urging GOP lawmakers to prioritize reopening the government and advancing a conservative agenda. The remarks came after Democratic wins in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City’s mayoral race, which Trump described as “a very Democrat area.”
At a White House breakfast with GOP senators and Vice President JD Vance, Trump accused Senate Democrats of obstructing progress, calling for the elimination of the filibuster to break the deadlock. He labeled Democratic leaders as “kamikaze pilots” prolonging what he termed a “Democrat-created shutdown,” claiming millions of Americans were harmed by the government’s closure.
Trump also criticized welfare spending under former President Joe Biden, citing a sharp increase in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program costs from $7 billion to $47 billion. He touted his economic policies, including tax cuts and manufacturing revival, while highlighting a $10 billion Toyota investment in U.S. plants.
The president urged Republicans to push for election integrity reforms and warned against Democratic efforts to “pack the courts” or expand statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, vowing that failure to act would result in a “Congress of radical left subversives.”
