Senate Conservative Defends Trump Immigration Stance Amid Criticisms

WASHINGTON – In a sharp critique of Democratic opposition to President Donald Trump’s administration policies, Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin has voiced strong support for the current approach to illegal immigration.

Mullin told Newsmax on Wednesday that Democrats should be expressing gratitude to President Trump for his efforts in enforcing immigration laws. He characterized past Democrat presidents as fundamentally agreeing with measures Trump now implements regarding border security and legal entry procedures.

Speaking on “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” Mullin emphasized the crucial question of whether the United States remains ‘a nation of laws or a lawless nation.’ He differentiated between immigrants entering legally, who come seeking stability and opportunity, from those crossing borders illegally – whom he labeled as federal fugitives lacking incentives to respect U.S. legislation.

“You can say whatever you want,” Mullin declared. “The Democrats want to make this about immigration, make it about migrants… It has nothing to do with that.

“It’s simply us enforcing our nation’s laws so everybody will have the same opportunity to thrive.”

He pointed out that while Clinton and Obama previously endorsed stricter border controls or spoke against granting amnesty to lawbreakers, “the only one doing something about it is President Trump,” according to Mullin. He stressed this point further by saying we should be thanking him.

Mullin also praised the expanded operations targeting drug trafficking networks, including interdictions at sea – efforts he claimed are now being unfairly criticized while criminals continue their activities unchecked.

He compared the number of overdose deaths in 2024 with the death toll from the Vietnam War and called on Democrats to support disrupting narcotics pipelines rather than focusing solely on immigration issues.

Additionally, Mullin took issue with some lawmakers’ positions. He accused Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar of taking an “anti-America approach,” particularly referencing her opposition to laws that allowed her family’s immigration journey despite their own background.
