Senator Rick Scott accused Democrats of prioritizing political agendas over American citizens during a Thursday interview with Newsmax, as the government shutdown crisis escalated. “President Trump is frustrated and so am I,” Scott said on Wake Up America. “He’s frustrated that the Democrats have just blocked everything.”

Scott criticized lawmakers for receiving pay while federal workers and military families face delayed checks, questioning why Democrats allegedly neglect to ensure payments for essential personnel. “Why don’t the Democrats care about making sure the military gets paid or FAA workers get paid?” he asked. Scott emphasized that senators should share the financial hardships of those impacted by the shutdown, noting, “You know what? So do people that need food stamps, so do people that are military, so do people that are keeping our planes safe in the sky.”

The Florida Republican urged immediate government reactivation to address the crisis, stating, “Let’s open up government and have a conversation about how we fix this country.” He also warned of potential legislative changes if Democrats continue blocking measures, saying, “We have to have all options on the table.”

Scott highlighted Florida’s population growth, citing an increase from 2010 to 2025 as residents fled high-tax states like New York and New Jersey. He linked this trend to a broader rejection of “socialism and communism,” referencing the election of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani as New York City mayor. Additionally, Scott raised concerns about Jewish student safety in northern cities, claiming they are “not going to be safe in New York City.”

The senator also criticized Verizon for allegedly leaking Republican lawmakers’ phone data during an investigation, calling it part of a pattern of political targeting. “If they can go after people like that, they can go after you, and they will,” he warned.
