Pete Sessions Accuses Democrats of ‘Deliberate Deception’ on DHS Funding as Threats Mount

Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, stated on Monday that Democrats are deliberately trying to deceive Americans into believing Republicans are responsible for the Department of Homeland Security funding impasse, even as threats continue to mount domestically.

During an interview, Sessions criticized what he described as a “deliberate” Democrat “misstep” following host Marc Lotter’s comments about growing security concerns and recent terror attacks. Lotter noted that the U.S. had experienced “three terror attacks just in a month,” leaving air travelers waiting in long lines and the nation vulnerable.

When asked whether the resolutions Democrats have proposed to reopen agencies are serious, Sessions replied: “No. That’s a deliberate misstep there that [Schiff] intentionally took to try and deceive people.”

The Texas representative accused Democratic leadership of a pattern designed to confuse voters about which party is blocking progress on DHS funding, stating: “The bottom line is every Republican votes yes, and the [Democrat] leadership has people voting no.” Sessions added that such public comments from Democrats only muddy the issue for Americans watching the stalemate unfold. He said: “When people like Adam Schiff come on and give these signals, it simply confuses the American people.”

The Republican emphasized that the GOP is ready to end the funding impasse, restore certainty for workers, and keep the focus on national security. “The bottom line is that Republicans want to move forward,” he said. Sessions also stressed that while DHS employees need to be paid, “the success of our security is what’s in the balance.”
