Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that combined military operations by Israel and the United States have significantly impacted Hamas in Gaza but fall short of achieving complete disarmament.
During remarks on a program, Netanyahu emphasized that President Donald Trump had been unequivocal about the need for Hamas to disengage from armed conflict. The prime minister confirmed that the two leaders agreed to provide Hamas with a two-month period to dismantle its weapons stockpile.
Netanyahu warned that Hamas retains approximately 20,000 fighters who are still equipped with Kalashnikov rifles and actively targeting Palestinians who resist their control. He also stated that Hamas may have as many as 60,000 firearms in circulation, which must be located and destroyed through ongoing efforts.
