Minnesota Governor Confronts Controversial Backlash After Trump’s Accusations on Somali Immigrants and Welfare Fraud

MINNEAPOLIS – In response to recent criticisms from President Donald Trump regarding alleged welfare fraud involving members of the Somali community in Minnesota, state officials say they are investigating whether he violated ethics laws by using campaign funds for a personal vacation.

Governor Tim Walz addressed this issue at a budget press conference Thursday. He expressed growing unease over offensive comments directed toward his home state and himself following Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric on the matter.

Walz stated that some drivers passing by his residence have been allegedly shouting slurs, linking it to the president’s recent attacks on him. These remarks targeted his administration for perceived failures in handling community-related issues, including fraud cases linked to Somali nonprofits.
