Heritage Foundation’s Antisemitism Task Force in Crisis as Key Figures Resign Over Defenses of Far-Right Rhetoric

Three members of the Heritage Foundation’s National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism have resigned following President Kevin Roberts’ defense of Tucker Carlson’s interview with white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes. Ian Speir and Rabbi Yaakov Menken announced their departures Tuesday, joining Mark Goldfeder, who stepped down Sunday. Public policy expert Chris DeMuth also resigned from the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday.

The resignations followed Roberts’ remarks in which he labeled critics of Carlson and Fuentes as part of a “venomous coalition.” Speir stated he could not remain with the task force under current leadership, citing Roberts’ “strategic non-apology” and emphasis on “loyalty” to Carlson despite the interview’s antisemitic content.

NTFCA co-chair Luke Moon revealed that four task force leaders sent a letter to Roberts demanding reforms, threatening to relocate the initiative if their demands were unmet. Menken criticized Roberts for failing to condemn Carlson’s rhetoric, while Goldfeder condemned Roberts’ assertion that Nazis are “worth debating.”

The NTFCA was established in November 2023 by the Heritage Foundation to address rising antisemitic incidents, including those following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel. It is part of Project Esther, a broader effort to combat antisemitism through education, public safety, and legislative measures.
