Dershowitz Claims U.N.-Led Gaza Rebuilding Will Be ‘Doomed to Failure’

Alan Dershowitz stated on Monday, December 29, 2025, that any serious effort to rebuild the Gaza Strip will fail if the United Nations is involved, saying the global body has become a driver of conflict rather than a force for peace in the Middle East.

On “The Record With Greta Van Susteren,” the Harvard Law School professor emeritus warned that the U.N. should be excluded from Gaza reconstruction efforts, noting its track record makes meaningful progress impossible.

“It’ll be doomed to failure,” Dershowitz said. “The U.N. can have nothing to do with it.”

“The U.N. is now a major source of conflict rather than a source for peace,” he added.

Dershowitz further suggested that the United States and Israel should consider withdrawing from the organization unless it undergoes fundamental reform, stating the U.N. currently operates as a “negative force in the world.”

He also discussed the recent meeting between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling it their strongest to date and highlighting deepening U.S.-Israel cooperation.

Dershowitz warned Tehran against advancing nuclear weapons or missile capabilities aimed at Israeli cities, suggesting consequences would follow. He noted that Israel does not require direct U.S. military involvement but only approval from Trump to act against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Additionally, Dershowitz argued lasting peace in the Middle East is impossible without regime change in Iran, stating the current leadership in Tehran is the “single greatest obstacle to regional stability.”

Turning to Gaza postwar governance, Dershowitz predicted U.S. and select European involvement but excluded nations he deemed disqualified due to support for a Palestinian state. He pointed to reports that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was vetoed by Hamas and criticized countries recognizing a Palestinian state without requiring recognition of Israel.

“Any country that foolishly recognized a Palestinian state where there is no state … is disqualified,” Dershowitz said, singling out Britain and Turkey.

Dershowitz also noted Palestinians have repeatedly squandered opportunities for statehood, stating a viable state cannot be created without eliminating terrorism and corrupt leadership. “The Palestinians haven’t earned themselves a state,” he added. “Maybe someday there’ll be a Palestinian state, but it can be a state without terrorists, without Hamas, and without the current Palestinian leadership.”
