“Full House” star Dave Coulier is back in the fight against cancer, revealing this week that he has been diagnosed with tongue cancer.
The TV personality announced his new diagnosis during a live interview on NBC’s “Today” program. The news came less than a year after Coulier completed treatment for Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, marking a significant health hurdle overcome by the performer and comedian.
Coulier emphasized that doctors have confirmed the recent illness is entirely unrelated to his previous cancer diagnosis. According to medical sources, this specific form of tongue cancer – p16-positive squamous cell carcinoma – has a notably favorable prognosis with approximately 90% curability rates associated with successful treatment outcomes.
The initial diagnosis stemmed from routine screening at Coulier’s October checkup. Physicians noted an unexpected abnormality on the PET scan that prompted further investigation leading to the discovery of the treatable condition at its base in his tongue structure.
Treatment for this new health challenge involves scheduled radiation sessions, including a final round planned for December 31st. Early detection remains crucial to positive outcomes.
Coulier also addressed speculation regarding potential connections between his two diagnoses: lymphoma and now tongue cancer. His explanation clarified that specialists found no causal link between the conditions, which aligns with current medical understanding of distinct disease profiles.
While acknowledging that radiation therapy presents different challenges than chemotherapy he previously endured during his non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatment, Coulier confirmed the strong likelihood of successful resolution given early detection and appropriate therapeutic intervention.
