New Jersey GOP gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli claimed on Saturday that he is gaining momentum ahead of Election Day, citing strong support from independents and some Democrats who have shifted their backing to his campaign. Speaking on Newsmax’s “America Right Now,” Ciattarelli emphasized the growing enthusiasm across the state, noting that minority communities have shown “overwhelmingly positive” reception. He also highlighted a recent endorsement from a prominent Democrat, suggesting that such support underscores voters’ desire for change.
Ciattarelli, who narrowly lost to Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy in 2021, attributed the shift to evolving political dynamics, including the easing of pandemic-era restrictions and a more engaged electorate. He pointed to a recent Emerson College poll showing Democrat challenger Mikie Sherrill leading by just one point, down from a 20-point advantage earlier this year. Ciattarelli argued that New Jersey’s 2.5 million unaffiliated voters, who lean right, are increasingly favoring his campaign.
On policy, Ciattarelli pledged to prioritize crime reduction and immigration enforcement, echoing themes associated with former President Donald Trump. He vowed to prevent any New Jersey municipality from becoming a sanctuary city and criticized the state’s cashless bail system, calling it ineffective and enabling “professional criminals.” Additionally, he addressed concerns about affordability for seniors, proposing tax-free retirement income and property tax freezes for those aged 70 and older.
Ciattarelli also dismissed comparisons to New York City’s mayoral race, stating that New Jersey is distinct from the city and expressing hope that Democrat Zohran Mamdani does not win. However, he pledged to advocate for New Jerseyans regardless of the outcome.
