Republican California State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio criticized Democratic efforts to reshape electoral boundaries, calling Proposition 50 a “giant scam” designed to entrench liberal control. Speaking to Newsmax, DeMaio accused Democrats of manipulating the redistricting process to suppress opposition and evade accountability for systemic failures in the state.
He described the measure as a tactic to distract voters from issues like high living costs, homelessness, crime, job losses, and deteriorating schools. “They’re bullies. They’re liars,” DeMaio said, adding that Democrats seek to “rig elections” to maintain power despite their inability to address Californians’ struggles.
DeMaio highlighted the Democratic Party’s claim that Proposition 50 would counter Republican policies on healthcare, tariffs, and immigration, calling it a misleading narrative. “They want to use Trump as the shiny object diversion from their failures,” he stated.
The assemblyman urged voters to prioritize conscience over polling data and criticized California Republicans for lacking an effective campaign strategy. He emphasized the importance of grassroots mobilization, stating, “It is time for the grassroots to take back control of our party and our government.”
DeMaio also reiterated former President Donald Trump’s allegations that the redistricting process was “unconstitutional” and “rigged,” though no legal action has been detailed.
