A report by Americans for Public Trust has uncovered that foreign charities have funneled nearly $2 billion into U.S. political causes and environmental activism over the past decade, according to Executive Director Caitlin Sutherland. She described the funding as part of an “extreme green energy agenda” aimed at destabilizing American democracy.

Sutherland highlighted that five foreign charities have quietly directed almost $2 billion into U.S. political groups, nonprofit sectors, and advocacy causes. “This includes climate litigation, research, and efforts to advance a foreign activist agenda,” she stated during an appearance on Newsmax’s “America Right Now.”

The report claims the funds support not only advocacy groups but also protests, lawsuits, and university research tied to climate activism. Sutherland emphasized that while federal law prohibits foreign governments from directly funding U.S. political candidates, legal loopholes have enabled foreign donors to influence policy through nonprofit networks.

She cited recent legislative efforts, including a Senate bill led by Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty, which seeks to block foreign funding in electoral tools like ballot harvesting and state ballot issue campaigns. “This is a dangerous, slippery slope,” Sutherland warned.

The report also points to foreign-backed initiatives promoting policies such as banning private vehicles and limiting meat consumption, which Sutherland called “extremist” measures unpopular with most Americans. She urged states to take stronger action against foreign funding, citing Florida’s efforts to restrict funds from “countries of concern.”

Sutherland concluded by encouraging Americans to review the report’s findings, which detail the flow of foreign money into domestic organizations. “If you see a group acting in your state, there’s a good chance it is foreign-funded,” she said.
