On Sunday, Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz warned that the conflict with Iran represents the most critical global threat since World War II and cautioned that inaction could result in mass destruction.
During remarks on a recent television program, Dershowitz declared: “This is the most important war since 1939, since Nazi Germany.” He asserted that if Iran develops nuclear weapons, it would replicate Hitler’s actions, causing millions of deaths worldwide.
Dershowitz emphasized the expanding reach of Iranian missiles, noting their capability to target Europe and ultimately the United States. “This is the most important war we have fought since the Second World War,” he stated. “Every decent person ought to join it.”
The professor criticized U.S. political divisions, adding: “The Democrats ought to join it in the United States. But they’re not, because they’re putting partisanship before national security.”
He further suggested that historical leadership decisions could have prevented past atrocities: “Had President Trump been in charge in 1935, 1936, I think the Holocaust would have been prevented.” Dershowitz warned that current efforts aim to avert “a nuclear holocaust that Iran would clearly inflict not only on Israel but on Europe.”
Additionally, Dershowitz rejected claims that Israel bears responsibility for past and current U.S. military decisions in the Middle East and condemned extremist elements within the Republican Party as threats to American democracy, Jewish communities, and Israel.
