Patrick Allocco, founder of the Zoose Political Index, highlighted the challenges faced by the Democratic Party in balancing its national image with local candidates during an interview on Newsmax’s “National Report.” Allocco noted that former President Barack Obama’s targeted efforts to support Democrats in New Jersey and Virginia, but not in New York, underscored the party’s difficulty in maintaining a moderate identity while promoting more extreme figures like Zohran Mamdani in local races.
Allocco described the New York City Democratic primary as a “fight for the soul of the Democrat Party,” emphasizing the significant influence of progressive factions in the region. He criticized the party’s inconsistent approach, stating it struggles to project a moderate stance nationally while endorsing candidates with radical positions.
On the Republican side, Allocco discussed President Donald Trump’s last-minute appeal to voters against GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa in the New York mayoral race, urging support for independent candidate Andrew Cuomo instead. He suggested this strategy could disrupt Zohran Mamdani’s potential victory, citing the high turnout expected on Election Day and the impact of early voting patterns.
Allocco acknowledged that while polls favored Mamdani, Trump’s intervention might still sway the election, as many early voters align closely with their party bases. He noted that the approximately two million New York voters casting ballots on Tuesday could determine the outcome despite the late nature of the campaign shift.
