Americans continue to view Democrats as disconnected from their concerns, with 68% of U.S. adults stating the party is “out of touch” with ordinary citizens, according to a recent survey. This marks a significant decline in the president’s approval rating, which stands at 41%, while 59% disapprove of his leadership. Trump’s lowest approval came on tariffs (33%) and federal governance (36%), though he received higher ratings for handling Israel and Gaza (46% approve).
The survey also highlights a stark partisan divide, with 86% of Republicans supporting the president, compared to 95% of Democrats disapproving. Among independents, 69% reject his performance, while 30% approve. On major issues such as the economy and immigration, Trump faced widespread criticism, with nearly two-thirds (64%) asserting he has overstepped in expanding presidential powers.
Despite these challenges, Democrats have seen limited gains from Trump’s declining popularity. A hypothetical 2026 midterm scenario shows a statistical tie between Democratic and Republican candidates, with 46% of registered voters favoring each party. The poll, conducted among 2,725 U.S. adults, carries a margin of error of ±1.9 percentage points for the full sample.
