The upcoming mayoral election in New York City represents a defining moment for Democrats and a warning for the party’s future direction, according to political strategist Dick Morris. Morris told Newsmax that if democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani wins, he would become a symbol of the Democratic Party’s growing radicalism. “When people think of the Democratic Party, they’re going to think of Mamdani and AOC,” Morris said, referencing New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He warned that a Mamdani victory would signal the party’s embrace of antisemitism and extreme policies, sending shockwaves through the Jewish community in New York and nationally.
Morris criticized Mamdani’s policies as echoes of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s approach to sanctuary cities and bail reform, which he linked to the city’s decline. He argued that Democrats, after each electoral loss, shift further left, nominating increasingly radical candidates. “What happens when the Democrats lose an election? They react by moving to the left,” Morris said, citing past examples like Michael Dukakis and Walter Mondale. He predicted the party risks self-destruction through its “firestorm of crazy rhetoric.”
Morris also promoted his new book, “The Real Charlie Kirk,” praising late conservative leader Charlie Kirk for inspiring young voters. However, he described Kirk’s death as a reflection of escalating political hatred.
