Trump Urges Senate GOP to Eliminate Filibuster in Bold Move

President Donald Trump has called on Senate Republicans to use the nuclear option to pass the House GOP continuing resolution with a simple majority vote, warning that Democrats lack the parliamentary discipline of their opponents and will retaliate in the future. “Remember, Republicans, regardless of the Schumer Shutdown, the Democrats will terminate the Filibuster the first chance they get,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He accused Democrats of planning to “Pack the Supreme Court, pick up two States, and add at least 8 Electoral Votes” if given the opportunity.

Trump emphasized that Senate filibuster rules require 60 votes to pass legislation outside budget reconciliation, but argued that a simple majority — with Vice President JD Vance as the tiebreaker — could bypass the rule. He criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for opposing government shutdowns only when Democrats are in power and warned that Democrats would “nuke the 60-vote filibuster threshold” once they regain control. “Don’t be WEAK AND STUPID,” Trump urged, demanding Republicans “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! WIN, WIN, WIN!” to end the “Extortionist Shutdown” and advance their agenda.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has secured 55 votes to end the shutdown but remains five short of a majority under regular order. Senator Rand Paul has opposed reopening the government, marking the longest full government shutdown in U.S. history. Trump reiterated his call for Republicans to “play their TRUMP CARD” and eliminate the filibuster, warning that failure to act would lead to future losses. He concluded: “This is much bigger than the Shutdown, this is the survival of our Country!”
