Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears told Newsmax on Saturday that her victory in the gubernatorial race will disprove claims that Republicans oppose immigrants, citing her own journey as a Jamaican-born Marine veteran and Republican leader.

Earle-Sears, running against Democrat Abigail Spanberger, accused Democrats of promoting division through identity politics and double standards, arguing her success as a Black woman in the GOP dismantles such narratives. “If it weren’t for double standards, they would have no standards at all,” she said during an interview on “The Count.”

She highlighted her historic 2021 election as Virginia’s first Black female lieutenant governor, stating her nomination by the Republican Party—referred to as the “party of Lincoln”—contradicts allegations of GOP hostility toward minorities. “They can’t say Republicans hate immigrants because here I am,” she said.

Earle-Sears criticized left-wing critics for focusing on racial divisions rather than unity or opportunity, accusing them of perpetuating historical wounds for political gain. “There are people who like to continue to fight the Civil War,” she claimed, adding that such rhetoric prevents healing and maintains dependency on progressive leaders.

Her message to voters, particularly young Americans and immigrants, centered on the American Dream’s viability through perseverance. “If I can do it, you can do it—and you can do even more,” she said.
