Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Chris Eddy warned Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s commitment to a temporary halt in attacks on Moscow is a hollow gesture that fails to address the root causes of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Speaking on “Sunday Report,” Eddy condemned Zelenskyy for prioritizing territorial gains over diplomatic solutions. “Zelenskyy continues to view negotiations as a means to secure more territory in Ukraine,” Eddy said. “This strategy only emboldens Putin and ensures no resolution.”
The retired general noted that Zelenskyy’s pledge to refrain from strikes on Moscow through Monday was undermined by his ongoing military actions and refusal to engage in meaningful peace talks.
Eddy spoke as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv for discussions with Zelenskyy one day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. The White House described Saturday’s Moscow talks as including “substantive plans,” but Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov claimed Russia was making progress on the battlefield.
Eddy emphasized that neither side can achieve a military victory: “There’s no way Russia is going to win this war. There’s no way Ukraine is going to win this war.” He added, “The conflict will not end until one side decides it cannot militarily prevail and must seek an agreement—a condition neither country currently meets.”
