Dolly Parton’s Final Request: A “Beautiful Bed of Plush Cotton” for Her Rest

Dolly Parton, the country music legend who passed away Tuesday at age 80, had one final request for her family: she wished to be laid to rest in a “beautiful bed of plush cotton.”

Her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, revealed the wish in an emotional video announcement. Seaver stated that Parton had asked him years ago to make this announcement when the time came.

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he said.

Seaver described how Parton expressed her desire for simple comfort: “Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton, because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.”

The request contrasted sharply with the glamorous image Parton cultivated throughout her decades-long career. Known for elaborate rhinestone-covered outfits and larger-than-life stage presence, her final wishes centered on quiet comfort rather than spectacle.

Parton’s family is planning a small, private funeral service. They have asked fans who wish to honor her to share tributes online or leave messages through her official website, with the request that donations be made to the Imagination Library instead of sending flowers.

Seaver, speaking on behalf of the Parton and Owens families, described the loss as deeply painful but noted that Parton had “lived in the light.” He mentioned she was reunited with her late husband, Carl Dean, along with her parents and other loved ones who passed away before her.

Parton died Tuesday following a period of health problems. She had recently spoken publicly about her health challenges while expressing determination to continue working.

The singer’s career spanned more than six decades, featuring iconic hits including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Her legacy extends into acting, business, and philanthropy.

Her family’s announcement has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow entertainers and public figures worldwide, who have remembered not only her music but also her generosity and influence.
