EU Trade Committee Demands U.S. Tariffs Recreate Scotland Deal to Be Accepted

European Parliament trade committee chair Bernd Lange has declared that the EU will only accept new U.S. tariffs that replicate the substance of the trade agreement struck last year at President Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland.

Lange stated on Thursday that while Washington’s recent launch of “Section 301” investigations into alleged unfair trade practices was anticipated, these actions have not provided a clear commitment from the U.S. administration to uphold the terms of the Turnberry Deal.

“We will see where the investigations lead,” Lange wrote on social media, “but anything that departs in substance from the Turnberry Deal will not be acceptable.” The European Parliament is still deliberating whether to vote on the agreement.
