Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) stated Wednesday that Congress must urgently enact legislation to terminate birth tourism following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause.
Ogles emphasized that individuals from China frequently travel to U.S. territory Guam to give birth, securing American citizenship for their children. He warned: “You literally have someone whose child is a Communist Party member who would be eligible to run for president of the United States of America.”
“I predicted that the Supreme Court ruling wouldn’t go our way,” Ogles said. “We had this legislation ready to go.”
The representative cited overwhelming public support for the SAVE America Act, noting it has garnered approval from over 80% of Americans. Ogles specifically urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune: “You have a mandate from the American people. You shouldn’t get another break. You shouldn’t get to go home early.”
Ogles declared Congress must work relentlessly for the nation’s 250th anniversary, stating: “We’re going to stay late. We’re going to work weekends, no more vacations.” He added that the legislative body’s duty requires ending what he called “anchor babies” and birth tourism practices: “The best present we can give to the American people is doing our jobs.”
