A Minnesota state representative has accused Gov. Tim Walz of ignoring repeated warnings about fraud by daycare providers in the state.
State Rep. Kristin Robbins, a Republican running for governor, said she provided the Department of Human Services with a list of daycare centers receiving over $1 million annually from the state that had numerous violations. The Quality Learning Center was among those listed.
“They can’t say they didn’t know,” Robbins told reporters. “We had a hearing on it, we gave them a list, and nothing has happened.”
Robbins described the center as part of a broader pattern of fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs, stating that the state has been “ground zero for fraud.” She added that despite repeated red flags, officials have taken no action until recently.
The Quality Learning Center gained national attention after an independent journalist and conservative YouTuber named Nick Shirley posted a video showing what appeared to be an inactive facility with a misspelled sign. State officials later described the center as closed, though it seemed operational just hours earlier on Monday.
Robbins urged Gov. Walz to resign, noting that Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan has also been involved in the issues. “If he resigned now, it would help,” she said, but added that Flanagan’s role complicates the solution.
