U.S. Military Launches Swift Strikes Against ISIS Targets Following Attack on U.S. Personnel

The U.S. military has initiated large-scale strikes against numerous Islamic State targets in Syria in direct retaliation for an attack that killed American personnel, according to a former Trump National Security Council chief of staff and executive secretary.

Fred Fleitz stated Sunday that ISIS thrives in regions marked by weak governance and fractured security systems, noting the Syrian government’s current vulnerability. He added that authorities have “put extremists and foreign fighters into its security services,” creating conditions for ISIS to reconstitute itself.

Fleitz emphasized that the U.S. action targets only sanctioned vessels involved in illicit trade with Venezuela rather than implementing a full maritime blockade. He warned that such shipments often utilize false flags, deactivate transponders, and route oil directly to Asian markets.

Retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Blaine Holt, who served as the deputy military representative to NATO, concurred with the strikes, calling them essential for establishing deterrence against terrorist groups while acknowledging potential risks of retaliation. Holt stressed that the operation aims to prevent further terrorist footholds in Syria and address threats linked to al-Qaeda.

Holt also highlighted broader security concerns, noting that large vessels used for sanctioned trade can transport human trafficking networks, weapons, and biological agents. He urged authorities to recognize these risks and prioritize U.S. safety as desperate populations face heightened exploitation.
